The certification of conformity to the E.S.E. standard.
The E.S.E. Consortium is obliged to exercise conformity controls on the products that Member companies intend to certify, so that the E.S.E. mark is properly used, effectively performs its quality assurance function and does not produce deception for the public.
To carry out the inspections, the Consortium uses individuals (consortium inspectors) and qualified, external and independent entities (see GSE profile below).
The certification process is based on the product control and production process management parameters defined by the Consortium E.S.E. and takes place at the production units of all members, in the timeline agreed with the Consortium.
During the certification process, compliance with the technical specifications that the E.S.E. standard provides is verified; in the case of paper pods, these are geometric, chemical-physical, sensory, functional and documentary specifications; in the case of espresso machines, they are temperature, volume, pressure, cream thickness, sensory, functional and documentary specifications; finally, for waffle machines, the specifications concern the servings obtained.
The Consortium has entrusted SGS to perform E.S.E. standard compliance checks on Members' products. Founded in 1878, SGS is a world leader in inspection, analysis, verification, testing and certification services for goods, services and systems.
