A manufacturer of third-party capsules designed to work on Nestlé's Nespresso coffee machines has recently sued the firm for €150m. in a French court claiming patent infringement and damages. The Ethical Coffee Company (ECC) said that Nespresso introduced a 'harpoon mechanism' to its machines in 2010 that stopped ECC's capsules working properly, with an alleged violation of European Patent EP 2 312 978 B1, held by ECC.
