British have raised fears that European Union pesticide plans could push up food prices in the UK. Brussels is considering tightening standards to prevent food with traces of certain pesticides from entering the bloc. The UK imports much of its fresh produce, coffee, and fruit from the same global suppliers that serve the EU and under a worst- case scenario, the price of coffee would soar by 332 % and citrus juice would jump by around 82 %, according to the Joint Research Centre.
