Columbia's National Federation of Coffee Growers has decided to launch a major campaign to promote Columbian coffee in Russia, starting in 2007.

Since 2000, Columbian coffee export to Russia has risen by 500%. According to a federation study, the real consumption of Columbian coffee in Russia is higher than official data, because some European producers of instant coffee that use Columbian coffee are also exporting coffee to Russia. Russia is one of the countries with the highest coffee consumption rates: 6% a year vs. 2% on average in the world. From 2003 to 2006, coffee consumption in Russia grew from 1.9 million bags (114,000 tonnes) to 2.5 million bags (150,000 tonnes), i.e, a 24% increase in coffee consumption in Russia for the past four years.
