Business description and review of Italian De\' Longhi.

De’Longhi S.p.A. (DLG) is an Italian company engaged in the manufacture and sale of electronic consumer goods. The company, along with its subsidiaries, serves two broad category of customers – Household and Industrial / Office customers. Each business division is managed and controlled by dedicated subsidiaries on a worldwide basis.

The Household division caters to household consumers and small office / outlet electronic goods requirement. The company offers products under broad sub-segments which include Air Conditioning and Air Treatment appliances, Floor Care and Ironing appliances, Food Preparation and Cooking Appliances, and Heating appliances.

DLG, under the brands De'Longhi, Ariete and Kenwood, offers products such as Coffee makers and grinders, Electric barbecues and Deep fryers, Portable heating appliances, Kettles and Microwave Ovens, Vacuum cleaners and Irons. DLG’s household segment is operated and managed by De'Longhi Household SA, a spun off subsidiary of the company. The Household division has contributed, approximately EUR 1136.85 million of the total revenue of the company during the fiscal year 2008.

The Professional business division is engaged in the production of large scale size thermo cooling systems, fixed air-conditioning systems and water-filled radiators. The company’s wholly owned subsidiary, De’Longhi Professional SA manages and operates the Professional business segment catering to large industrial customers and developers. The company’s products under this segment are distributed principally through the professional channel. The company has several indirectly held production subsidiaries established in various parts of the European Union such as Germany and France and in global locations such as the US, China, Canada and the Netherlands. The Professional business division contributed approximately EUR 411.2 million of the company’s total revenue during the fiscal year 2008.

Following the group's reorganization, its Household and Professional divisions have been joined by the Corporate division. The new division principally comprises the activities of the parent company De’Longhi S.p.A. and certain subsidiaries. The Corporate division mainly offers corporate services to the group with the functions of setting strategy, of control, co-ordination and management of centralized activities and resources. The Corporate business division contributed approximately EUR 17.33 million of the company’s total revenue during the fiscal year 2008.

DLG operates six directly held subsidiaries and several indirectly held associate companies and subsidiaries. These subsidiaries are established on a global platform in various regions such as Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Russia, the UK, the US among others. The subsidiary, De’Longhi Capital Services S.r.l. provides loans, payment, currency brokerage, financial co-ordination and treasury management services to the group. The company’s other subsidiaries include E-Services S.r.l., De’Longhi Appliances S.r.l., Clim.Re S.A., De’Longhi Household S.A. and De’Longhi Professional S.A.

Geographically, the company operates under the following segments – Italy, the UK, Rest of Europe, North America inclusive of the US, Canada and Mexico and Rest of the world. The company’s domestic market of Italy contributed EUR 300.2 million of the company’s total revenue, while the UK and Rest of Europe contributed EUR 133.6 million and EUR 734.5 million respectively. DLG’s North American market consisting of the US, Canada and Mexico contributed about EUR 99.5 million of the company’s total revenue while the Rest of the world contributed EUR 265.6 million of the total revenue of the company during the fiscal year 2008.
