Business description and review of French Groupe Seb.

Groupe SEB (SEB) is a France based company specialized in manufacturing and marketing of various small household appliances and home wares. The company offers its products in three broad product classes, namely, kitchen, home and personal products. The company provides products such as Cookware, Food Preparation, Electrical Cooking Appliances, Linen Care, Personal Care, Home Comfort and Cleaning. The company generates some 200 new products and models each year. The company’s product portfolio comprises of 40 product families that are marketed in 20 brands. These products are sold in more than 120 countries worldwide including North and South America, European Union, Asia Pacific regions. The company has a workforce of 13,048 employees.

The Cookware appliances offered by the company include products like stewpots, pressure cookers, bakeware, and frying and sauce pans. The company offers one of the world’s most reputed non-stick frying and sauce pan under the brand name of Tefal / T-Fal. SEB, under its broad product portfolio of electric cooking appliances, offers products such as electric deep fryers, ovens, electric barbecue grills, grill-stones, waffle makers, toasters, cookers and etc..

SEB, under its group product portfolio, offers a range of products in the product class of Linen Care. Some of the key products in the linen range comprise of iron and steam generators, non-automatic washing machines, spin dryers, brushes among the others. The company under its product class of Home Cleaning and Comfort offers an assortment of products like vacuum cleaners canister (bag less, hand-held), cordless, fans, radiators, mobile heating appliances, etc.. SEB under its Personal Care product range offers a wide and in-depth range of appliances such as hairstyling appliances (hair dryers, hair clippers, rotating brushes, straighteners, etc.), epilators, electronic scales, manicure sets, baby care items (baby bottles, bottle warmers, sterilizers, night lights, baby monitors, etc.) among the others.

The Beverage and Food Preparation products offered by the company includes food processors and choppers, mixers, blenders, filter and espresso coffee makers, multi-drink machines, electric kettles, juice extractors and citrus juicers, while the Electrical Cooking products offered include toasters, deep fryers, steamers, barbecues, grills, waffle makers, counter-top ovens, bread machines and appliances for relaxed dining, such as raclette grills, electric crepe pans or woks, grill-stones, and fondue or tajine sets.

The company also produces and sells products such as food processors and juice extractors, mixers and blenders, coffee makers and electric kettles, and various small food and beverages preparation equipment and devices. SEB’s complete product range is offered in 20 brands which comprises 14 local brands and six international brands. The six internation brands of the company are All-Clad, Moulinex, Krups, Lagostina, Tefal and Rowenta. Some of the regional brands of the company are: Calor and SEB present in France and Belgium; Mirro, T-Fal, AirBake, WearEver and Regal present in North America; and Arno, Rochedo, Panex, Clock, Samurai and Penedo sold in South America. During the year 2008, the company filed 100 full patents and 404 preliminary patents.

SEB operates through a total of 57 subsidiaries across the world. Some of the prime subsidiaries of the company include Calor SAS, SAS SEB, Tefal SAS, Groupe SEB France and SEB Internationale SAS as well as Rowenta Deutschland GmbH, Rowenta Invest BV, All Clad USA, Inc., Groupe SEB Holdings USA, Groupe SEB Australia Ltd., Groupe SEB CR s.r.o/Groupe SEB Slovensko s.r.o, SSEAC Co. Geographically, the company operates in six segments, namely, France, Other European Countries, North America, South America, Asia-Pacific and Central Europe / CIS and other countries. For the fiscal year ended 2008, the company generated revenue of EUR 668 million from France, while EUR 735 million, EUR 394 million, EUR 269 million, EUR 666 million and EUR 498 from Other western European Union countries, North America, South America, Central Europe, CIS and other countries, and Asia Pacific respectively.
