From 1895 to the present, Lavazza has traversed more than a century of history dedicating itself exclusively to coffee. One family, four generations and a great passion that have led the company to become one of the most important coffee roasting and selling industries in the world. Lavazza's history began with the small grocery store opened by Luigi Lavazza in 1895 at 10 Via San Tommaso, which after specializing in roasting and trading coffee wholesale and retail became today's Luigi Lavazza S.p.A. in 1927.

In the early 1960s, Lavazza was the first company in Italy to introduce vacuum packs of ground coffee. The possibility of preserving the freshness of the product intact over time is the basis for the gradual conquest of the Italian market, through a widespread distribution network with the opening of numerous branches and a specialized sales network. These are the years of the affirmation of the Paulista blend, a success that pushes the Company, in 1965, to significantly increase production, with the opening of a new plant in Settimo Torinese, which has become, over time, one of the most important production facilities in the world. Also in this period, Lavazza's communication is the undisputed protagonist in the carousel television commercials with the characters, born from the creativity of Armando Testa, of Caballero and Carmencita. The 1980s, were the years of Lavazza's expansion into European markets, and in 1982 in France, the first subsidiary was opened in Paris, to be followed by those in Germany, Austria, England, the United States, Spain and Portugal.

Eight foreign subsidiaries and six Italian subsidiaries work with Lavazza on a daily basis. The work activity involves a group of 1,700 people. The group's turnover is 867 million euros.
