With Caffè Borbone's membership, the Consortium for the Development and Protection of the E.S.E. Standard celebrates 25 years since its founding
The Neapolitan company, which is part of Italmobiliare Spa, is among the leading producers specializing in pods and capsules and joins roasting members illycaffè and Lavazza to share its choices and future challenges in respect of the environment.
Milan , March 2023 - The General Assembly of Members of the Consortium for the Development and Protection of the E.S.E.(Easy Serving Espresso) Standard, also meeting on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of its establishment on February 23, 1998, doubled the celebration with the application of Caffè Borbone as a roasting member.
"For 25 years, Caffè Borbone has also been carrying on the centuries-old tradition of true Neapolitan espresso, with passion and with an eye always turned to the future"-among President Massimo Renda's first comments-"And considering that for Caffè Borbone, sustainability comes first. continues Renda- it was time to celebrate the mutual milestone of a quarter century to join the only association in the industry that - like us - has never stopped taking a virtuous approach to the production of coffee pods in compostable paper. "
And here is the first comment of the President of the E.S.E. Consortium, Furio Suggi Liverani and Chief Scientific Officer of illycaffè Spa, at the end of the General Assembly of the E.S.E. Consortium Members that resolved the membership of Caffè Borbone "We found ourselves after a few years since our first pilot experiment on compostability. The idea was great, but the time was not yet ripe. Being too avant-garde generally does not directly reward, but it benefits the market. Now the time is right to face, also together with Caffè Borbone, the important challenges that in terms of sustainability will increasingly affect the portioned coffee sector. "
The President of the E.S.E. Consortium refers to the forecast growth in consumer demand for single-serving coffee pods made of compostable filter paper, who are increasingly sensitive to the use of materials whose disposal limits the impact on global pollution."It is a realistic forecast that the E.S.E. compostable paper pod will return to the market spotlight and consequently the Consortium. We are ready. Also by increasing in the course of 2023 the vigilance in cases of misuse of the E.S.E. logo and lettering," says President Suggi Liverani.
And there is a hint of made-in-Italy pride, because let's remember that the E.S.E. Consortium was formed in Italy, that theEasy Serving Espresso ( E.S.E.) patent was born in Trieste in 1974 from an idea of illycaffè. Patent liberalized in 1996 in order to create a single industry standard for the easy preparation of espresso coffee like that of the bar. "This aspect also unites us with the choices and production of Caffè Borbone, both passionately made in Italy," concludes President Suggi Liverani.
